Getting married is that one great event in anybody’s life that sends a barrage of human emotions in one great package. It can cause happiness in finally getting to the end of that big race of finding your one true love, but could also cause sadness at the thought of letting go of a few things that belongs to your single life. It sends in that level of excitement as you look forward to what’s ahead, but also adds that tinge of fear at the uncertainty that will follow.

Despite this threatening mix of emotions, the fact still remains that marriage is something that not only two people should be looking forward to, but everybody within their inner circle as well. This is why Save the Date cards have become a norm, almost as important as the wedding invitation itself.

What Save the Date Cards are For

Save the Date cards are sent to announce the actual date of your wedding even if the rest of the plans have not been fixed yet. These are often sent around 4 to 6 months before the wedding. For those who are planning a destination wedding however, it is better to send the card 9 months to a year in advance to give ample time for additional preparations.

What are Save the Dates for? For one thing, this gives you top priority in case any of your guests receive other event invitations for the same day. This will also allow your guests to have enough time to book their flights, reserve hotel rooms, file vacation leaves, and prepare everything else they need. It’s also a great way to spark that excitement among your guests.

Save the Date Basics

What should Save the Date cards contain? Basically, all that it really needs to contain is the formal announcement that you have decided to get married on a specific day. Even if you do not have a specific venue yet, it is best to state the city or the general area where it will be held to give guests a heads up on whether they would have to make additional preparations or not. Make a note as well that you will also be sending a formal invitation before the wedding containing more specific details about the event.

As far as designs are concerned, there really is no proper format followed. Because of the lack of restrictions in Save the Date cards, these people have taken the liberty of making the most out of it and going all out on creativity:
