Banksy is an England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter. His eye-opening street art combines irreverent dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stencilling technique.
Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. Most people say graffiti is ugly, disruptive, pointless, irresponsible, and childish. All of those allegations are flushed down the toilet, when it’s done properly.
Banksy is a master of doing it properly. Most have a strong opinion about the use of stencils. Other artists swear that it’s incapable, foolish, naive, and senseless. However, Bansky thinks differently.
Stencils are good for two reasons, one – they’re quick ; two – they annoy idiots. Apart from his outside artworks, he goes even farther to express his views by creating physical prop pieces (which you will see below.)
Quick Facts:
- Bansky is not even considered to be a brand.
- He paints all of the pieces himself unless it’s illegal.
- Käthe Kollwitz is one of his favorite artists.
- He supports charities that restore sight and prevent eye disease.
- Does not operate any Facebook or twitter accounts.
- Banksy does not make photo canvases, mugs, wall stickers, greeting cards or t-shirts.
We are very inspired by his works and understand most of the meaning without given explanations. Banksy has struggled for years to maintain the mystery of his identity.
Many have claimed to have figured out who he really is, but we are quite doubtful about their speculations. We hope that you will enjoy his works and gain inspirational views. Who knows maybe you will try to create a name for yourself…
