Email marketing remains a great way in which to promote your business. This is true whether your business takes the form of a small brick-and-mortar shop or a large online store. Here are seven reasons why an email marketing campaign is just relevant as it used to be:
1. It is simple
Email marketing is not only easy to use but can aid you in reaching out to new and existing customers. You do not need significant marketing experience or sophisticated tools to launch an email marketing campaign – all you need is an email account and an engaging message to include within the body of your emails.
2. It can keep your customers up-to-date
Sending out weekly or monthly emails about new products or special offers is the perfect way in which to keep your customers up-to-date. In your emails, you can include links to new products or services and provide discount codes for use at the checkout.
3. It attracts traffic to your website
As you are free to embed links to your website in your emails, an email marketing campaign can draw a significant amount of traffic to your website. A report conducted in 2010 by ForeSee Results found marketing emails to be the second most important influence on the amount of visits received by a retail website.
4. It is cost-effective
In comparison to sending out printed written communication through the post, it is not only cheaper but more environmentally-friendly to run an email marketing campaign. According to an Econsultancy survey conducted in 2011, 72% of respondents described the return on investment for their email campaigns to be either “good” or “excellent”. Only organic SEO campaigns scored higher. The Direct Marketing Association, meanwhile, calculated the return on investment for email marketing campaigns run in 2011 at just over $40 (£24) for every $1 (£0.60) invested.
5. It is instant
While perfecting your email marketing messages can take time, you can send your messages directly to your customers’ inboxes in minutes.
6. It is easy to opt-in or out of marketing campaigns
Through your website, you can grant your customers the chance to register for email updates only if they wish to do so. You can therefore send your emails to customers who have shown an interest in your products or services and as such, your marketing efforts are unlikely to go to waste.
7. It can be used to build relationships
By sending out regular emails, you can keep your customers connected to your business. This will keep your business at the forefront of your customers’ minds and can work to your advantage when they come to purchase a product or service that you happen to offer. Such is the power of email marketing, a survey conducted by Ireland’s Marketing Institute in 2011 found 84% of respondents to claim that email marketing campaigns were either “important” or “very important” to their business’ marketing strategies. A 2011 MerchantCircle survey, meanwhile, found email marketing to be ranked in the top three most effective advertising techniques amongst business owners in the U.S.
The advantages of running an email marketing campaign are many and varied. While email marketing campaigns have been proven to work successfully for many businesses, it is essential for you to get the basics of running a campaign just right. While there is little to lose though launching an email marketing campaign, if you wish to ensure the success of your campaign, you may wish to hire the services of a professional email marketer.
