Smoking kills. The message can’t get any simpler than that. It’s not just something activists claim to stop people from making tobacco companies even richer than they already are. Rather, it’s a reality that a lot of people from all over the world have had the unfortunate fate of experiencing for themselves.

What Smoking Does to the Body

Smoking does so much harm to the body not just on the inside, but on the outside as well. It’s one of those things where the benefits are superficial and worthless – it keeps your hands and mouth busy for a bit of time. But when it comes to the ill effects, you pay in years of your life.

Here are just some of the ill effects of smoking:

  • Poor vision
  • Suppresses your appetite, affecting your overall health and the supply of nutrients to your body
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Coughing
  • Colds and flu
  • Bronchitis
  • Lung cancer
  • Higher pace of blood clotting
  • Constriction of blood vessels
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer of the blood
  • Stained, yellowish teeth
  • Yellowish fingers and nails
  • Old, wrinkly skin
  • Complications for diabetes patients
  • Infertility
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Cervical cancer
  • Early menopause
  • Problems on newborns

It doesn’t even matter how much you smoke in a day. Even worse, you also affect the lives of people around you with second hand smoke.

Absurd Cigarette Ads

Because of the amount of harm that cigarettes can cause, packets of cigarettes and any form of advertising within the tobacco industry require sufficient warning. These warnings range from simple statements of the ill effects of smoking, to graphic evidence of what could happen to your body when you continue smoking.

Through these messages, smokers are reminded constantly about the choices that they’re making, and where these choices are leading to. But times weren’t always like these. There was a time when information on smoking was not as available or as extensive as it is now. It seems ludicrous, but there was a time when smoking was even put on a good light, especially by the companies marketing the products. Today, we call it false advertising and can get tobacco companies into trouble. But before, it was seen as a smart marketing strategy meant to rake in the money.

Here are some of the most absurd smoking ads ever made. Some of them may be attractive and apply great creative techniques, but the message they’re sending could make you fall off you chair in an instant.
