Do you like playing cards?
Playing cards, being one of the mankind’s oldest forms of amusement, originated in China in the 9th century. After a long journey through India, Persia and Egypt the concept arrived in Europe by the end of 14th century, and, a couple of centuries later – in the United States. Their design underwent many changes: they were simple and fancy, they had Arabic patterns on them, they were designed for kings and the poor, and were used for gambling and for the playing of games of skill. Cards were used for different purposes, and in the second decade of the 21st century web designers decided it was high time to use them for mastering web design.
Over the years, designs change and this has applied to playing cards as much as to any other objects. Web design is no exception. What do you do in order to keep your finger on a pulse of web design? You monitor the latest trends and incorporate them in your work. But how well do you know what web design trends were in fashion in, say, 2007? Or maybe 2010? Any ideas?
To check for yourself and/or see which web design trends were implemented in a specific year, see a well-structured infographic by TemplateMonster where every web design trend is clearly explained and illustrated.
Actually this very infographic served as our inspiration for creating a pack of unusual web design cards.
A deck of cards has 52 cards, and each card corresponds to a specific trend (starting from 2004 up till 2015). You can use them as regular cards or bet with your web design pals on how well you know web design trends and prove you are a web design guru 🙂 It’s all up to you.
Moreover, not only is the name of a trend mentioned, but the face of the card is illustrated in exactly that particular style. Visualization is King.
For instance, the latest trends in 2015 are presented on 4 cards: material design which was set by Google, monochromatic colours (that is minimal palettes), microinteractions (a call-to-action strategy like those pop-ups suggesting that you subscribe as they assist you in building a large customer base) and large hero areas which draw viewers’ attention and help the SEO features of a website.
