As we big farewell to another year and usher in the next one, it’s only fitting that we take a look back at some of the inspiring people who passed away this year. Their contributions and accomplishments stretch beyond their time on Earth; these select few drove innovation in the fields of art, design, style, business, and more. Business and Publishing Zig Ziglar Do you want to turn your luck or your life around? Then Zig Ziglar was the man to listen to and heed his advice. He died last month at 86 years of age, but his message can still be found on promotional video and other materials. For over 40 years, Ziglar traveled around the world as a motivational speaker, instilling hope and change into unsuspecting patrons. He spoke 150 times in one year, at $50,000 a speech. His followers credited Ziglar for more than just his positive attitude; he was funny and charming in a way that motivated others to want to emulate those traits. Helen Gurley Brown Brown’s “Sex and the Single Girl” shocked traditional thinkers in the 1960′s. She’d go on to become the editor of Cosmopolitan magazine. She died in August at 90. As editor of the magazine for over 30 years, Brown change the way women saw themselves, but arguably more importantly how people spoke about women in society. She was always pushing the limits and opening up conversations about sex. Brown had a certain presence to her that let you know she was there, and she made the rounds at all the right parties. Whether she was a feminist or not is up for debate, but what’s clear is that she was ahead of her time. Maurice Sendak Many young children grew up on his books, and much of Maurice Sendak’s literature remains fan-favorites. He died in May at the age of 83. The artist brought together dark and beautiful imagery in more than a dozen picture books he wrote and illustrated. “Where the Wild Things Are,” which came out in 1963, is his most acclaimed work. Earlier this year, Sendak published his first work in 30 years — it spent five weeks on the New York Times children’s best-seller list. It proved that Sendak’s unique style and voice cross generations. Stephen Covey This best-selling writer of self-help and business books was best known for his 1989 book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Restoring the Character Ethic.” He died in July at the age of 79. That book has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, President Clinton once credited Covey with helping to rejuvenate the American workforce in the the 1990′s. Covey, for his part, remained humble throughout, believing that he was just pushing people to do what they already knew. He encouraged good behavior to get the best results. Design & Style Carroll Shelby This hot-rodder got so into sports cars that he made high-performance cars like the Cobra. He died in May at 89. He put Ford V-8 engines into other cars to rival competitors like Ferrari, Maserati and Jaguar. The Cobra captured America by storm in the 1960′s thanks to its design and its power. He kept on chugging, too. Over the past decade, he worked up a design of new Mustang models for the company’s centennial, and he was heavily involved in other projects. Ralph McQuarrie McQuarrie spent his career buried way behind the scenes of Hollywood, but he made quite a mark there. The artist, who died in March at the age of 82, transformed George Lucas’s vision for “Star Wars” into a bona fide, exciting motion picture full of intergalactic travel and dramatics. McQuarrie took illustrations from comic books and turned them into a marvelous spectacle. Millions of children grew up with the characters that McQuarrie brought to life. And they live on for another day. Vidal Sassoon Some might not have realized the popular hair products are named after the man behind the company. He passed away in May at the age of 84 and left behind a large empire and many avid fans. What made Sassoon unique was his methodology to haircutting, bringing a form of architectural design to coifs in the late 1950′s and early 1960′s. He developed a style of hair piled high that empowered women to take better care of their dos on their own without the need to race to the local salon. He liked to play with geometric shapes and sharp angles that would highlight the customer’s strengths. Along the way, he revolutionized the hair industry. Art & Architecture Thomas Kinkade While many artists have aspired to reach tremendous heights in price and prestige for their works of art, Kinkade did a masterful job making decorative, sentimental paintings that were affordable for the average family. He died in April at 54. Some of his work had Christian themes, while others were focused on American fields and serenity. Kinkade deliberately left people out of his paintings as to allow the owner to envision himself inside the magnificent landscape. He called himself “painter of light” and provided a beacon for a nation of dreamers. LeRoy Neiman One of the most popular artists in America, Neiman died in June at 91 years of age. He covered sporting events in beautiful and innovative ways and photographed high society like few before him. Most remarkable was his versatility to seemingly know no bounds — completing paintings, drawings, watercolors, serigraph prints and coffee-table books over the course of his career. He brought in tens of millions of dollars at sale. It’s his sports shots that brought him most fame, though. He attended several Olympics and Super Bowls and showed a willingness to adapt to the times and techniques. Oscar Niemeyer A successful Brazilian architect who lived until he was 104, Niemeyer passed away earlier this month. He’s remembered for his flowing designs that influenced architects around the world. He died in his native Brazil. Niemeyer had strong ties to Modernism and is best known for designing the government buildings of Brasília. With it, he helped Brazil bring itself to modern styles and standards. He dedicated his life to his trade, working through his 80s and into his 90s. “Humanity needs dreams to be able to survive the miseries of daily existence,” he was quoted as saying, “even if only for an instant.” - Nytimes.com Elizabeth Catlett Catlett died in April at the age of 96. She was famous for her sculptures of the human form that symbolized her feelings for the African-American experience and the long struggle for acceptance and assimilation. Her art stretches over at least 60 years, documenting from start to finish the way that blacks persevered and found strength during harder times. She drew inspiration from well known black leaders like Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, and Ralph Ellison, and her artwork is prominently displayed from coast to coast. Check out our previous articles: 7 Benefits of Smartphone’s to Small business Why You Should Write an eBook Rethink Your QR Code Strategy for Better Results Torrents: Concerns, Advantages and How to Use Them Which CMS Platform is best for Blogging?
After many long weeks, we have finally finished our E-book! We’ve never sold an E-book online, and decided to give it a try. After much research and interpretation, we decided not to cut any corners. Finding out how much work you have to do for a single E-book is mind-boggling. Successful or not, we are very thankful for the wonderful experience. Introduction The last month has been quite hectic. We constantly try to publish over 20+ articles every single week and so far it’s a full time job. Why do we strive for more daily articles? Please allow me explain: Personally when I visit technology blogs, I love to read about the latest happenings in the industry. They always manage to have around 10-15 article for me to consume on daily basis. So every morning, my brain receives delightful caffeine from coffee and eye-opening information. Previously we would only publish 1-2 article a day. I can totally relate to how boring that can get. Pressing the refresh button should not be a full time job. Sticking to a strict publishing schedule will allow our readers to know exactly what to expect every single day. You should always remember to adjust for your audience. Since we have mostly American readers, we tend to publish articles while you dream and when you wake up your inspirational content is ready! Along with constantly writing, we have managed to create a short, but sweet, e-book for you to consume. The e-book is 40 pages long and is intended to be finished in less than an hour. We plan to release many more e-books in the future and start a tiny store. Behind the Scenes of Business Branding Unlike most books, we chose to focus on a specific topic instead of only giving out generic advice. Why did we chose Branding? Many business owners should know about branding. If you’re an entrepreneur starting a business today, you should have at least some education about what you’re doing. Jumping in the water not knowing how deep it is, will only help you drown. We have managed to create a beautiful E-book and made sure that it ran on every popular mobile device. However something was still missing. We all like to get something extra with any kind of purchase, right? Usually the icing on the cake is a great way to reward the customer for supporting your business. Therefore we decided to offer some pixel perfect business card templates that you can use for you or your business. (Oh, and just a little fyi, the formatting for the Epub and Kidle was a blast! For future advise, please make sure to hire a professional to do this for you. It will save you time, money and most importantly stress. Trust me, I’m always the DIY guy, but when it comes to formatting a PDF….I’ll gladly pass. ) Why did we charge for the E-book? Besides the obvious answer (to make money), we believe the web is already flooded with free stuff. Even when you find freebies like books, fonts, graphics, software and icons you barely use them for your projects. By charging hard cash for our product, we were hitting two birds with one stone: We are signaling that it was better than the content you can find for free. Increasing the chance people would actually read the book after they downloaded it. We have given tons of thought on the pricing of our e-book. Other quote on quote “Marketing Gurus” say that you should to charge a lot. Why? They strongly believe in psychology of pricing, meaning that the more you charge for something, the more valuable it is perceived to be. This might be true, however we have no interest in using psychology to trick you into buying our product. The bottom line is that if you’re interested in the topic, then acquire the e-book. After reading about a mix of experiences from other famous self publishers, such as Seth Godin, we decided to take the route you see today. Currently the economy around the world is not too hot. Originally we thought $15 was an ideal price point for all the hard work, labor, time, effort, that went into this book. However we had to be real with ourselves. The obvious question to ask yourself when pricing an E-book is, “Would I personally buy it?” If yes, then go a bit lover, if not then rethink the strategy. Coming down all the ways from $15, we settled on around $5. We understood that by making an e-book too cheap, people might think that it’s irrelevant, bad, or just simply crap. Why do people think like that? Well it’s because usually when you buy something cheap it’s unreliable and has a short life span. Another hot thing to do right now is to sell your e-book for only $.99 cents. The whole idea is to get people to buy it and make money from all the inner affiliate links. This is not something that we want to do. Milking your readers/customers is morally wrong. I can assure you that there isn’t a single link in this e-book (seriously, not even to our own website.) Conclusion We are not here to sell you other crappy products that you will never use. We want to provide quality information that you will keep for the rest of your life. That was simply the goal from the start. Whether you are interested in the book or in the business card templates, we really hope you can support what we are doing and purchase the e-book. We’ve been providing great content since March 3rd, 2010. We hope that you will help our site to continually flourish and grow even more. For more information about “Business Branding – A Blueprint Guide for Beginners” check out the sales page.

Introduction

The last month has been quite hectic. We constantly try to publish over 20+ articles every single week and so far it’s a full time job. Why do we strive for more daily articles? Please allow me explain:

Personally when I visit technology blogs, I love to read about the latest happenings in the industry.

The following article includes my experience at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Owning an inspirational website, I seldomly focus on myself and work my butt off to bring you incredible content. Truth is, you probably don’t care what I ate for breakfast this morning. What you do care about is the educational content that is presented. Whether it’s Facebook or Twitter, I only focus on sharing the best articles, pictures, inspiration, quotes, video and more. I completely understand that cars are not present in the niche we occupy. Design, which we cover, plays as huge role in automobiles. Some think design is the way a car looks, but it’s much more than that. Hundreds if not thousands of elements go into vehicle production such as studying human interaction with vehicles, technological features, re-using recyclable materials, providing comfort, enforcing safety, experience improvement, etc. Designing a vehicle takes sweat and tears. Acknowledging hard work of the people behind it, takes wisdom. After the experience I’ve had, I’m able to have a broader view on this automotive industry. Their innovative struggle never ends and for that I’m very thankful. Throughout the trip, I became much more appreciative of how hard other humans work to bring us the best driving experience possible. So if you love cars and would love to see what a big press event feels like, then this article will be a great read along with your favorite beverage. I believe my experience will be inspirational to everyone. Ford Motor Company paid for my travel and accommodations during the press event. I was not compensated in any other manner for my time. Opinions posted are completely based on my opinion. Introduction If you haven’t noticed from my recent status updates on Twitter, I recently had the pleasure to attend the North American International Auto Show and Ford Fantasy Camp in Detroit. As exciting as that might sound, the icing on the cake was the other bloggers, business owners, designers, and creative people who joined me. Ford invited me along with 149 digital influencers from over 16 different countries like India, Vietnam, France, South Africa, and Brazil. I still feel glorified and blessed to have been a part of the experience. Never in my life have I had the honorable experience to meet so many intelligent individuals. Almost every single conversation included ideas of the future. Which in return, left us both pouring out our developed knowledge. Ford selected influencers in a very smart manner; they had managed to create a crowd that specialized in multiple amount of niches. Which in the end, has helped them to reach a wider global audience. Arriving at the Motor City for the very first time, my impressions were overwhelming. Upon arriving at the ever busy Detroit Metro Airport, I was greeted by Ford representatives wo shortly after transported me to the The Henry Hotel. To be quite honest I have never been treated this nice in my entire life. Setting the new standards, every participant had a separate hotel room. Oh and how can I forget the high speed Internet….that could not overcome the 150+ people using it simultaneously. Jokes aside, it worked well under the circumstances. Thinking Different Ford really thinks outside the box and realizes that traditional media is losing its ground thanks to blogging. Media cartels are getting pretty upset about this; however I’m so glad that the Internet alone has helped the average Joe to actually have their voice/opinion heard. Ford sees itself as a technology company, not just an auto company. Their different thinking has payed off in a big way, making them the king of NAIAS. That last sentence is not my opinion, or exaggeration. According to Scott Monty, head of Ford’s Social Media, at the end of Day One about 70% of the information shared on social media about NAIAS came from us. Now get this mind-blowing statistic, we collectively managed to reach over 5 million people on that very first day. Words cannot describe how powerful Social Media really is, and not to mention more powerful than traditional auto media. The Experience The very first day on Sunday evening, we had the honor to dine-in at the Henry Ford Museum. A nice little fact; the museum will be opened to the public on January 28th. Not going to lie, I felt pretty special to experience it prior to the official opening. The museum, entrenched in history, had the exact car John F. Kennedy was assassinated in, the chair in which Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, the first vehicles of Henry Ford, the bus that Rosa Parks rode in, and much, much more. The emotional walk throughout American history really makes you thankful for innovators and leaders that worked hard to change the world. The morning after, we were driven to downtown Detroit for the Auto Show. While waking up at 5am might not sound pleasant to some, a few hours later I suddenly realized that it was all worth it! Getting ready for Ford’s press event, was quite an enthusiastic feeling. Since the embargo ended at midnight, I knew that cheating and searching what will be released, would contradict the whole experience for me. Ford did it bigger than everybody else, by having a completely separate arena for their press event. Their new 2013 Ford Fusion really stole the spotlight of the entire show. The sexy car did not have an official price, but as always will be priced competitively to take down Japanese rivals like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The sedan will offer five power-plans, including a traditional Hybrid, a plug-in Hybrid and three different gasoline engines. The car looks fairly similar to an Aston Martin. If we were to switch the logos’, you would not be able to even guess that Ford made it. Throughout the day car manufacturers would give out goodies like USB’s, bags, clothing, and other handy items all in sake of promotion. Mercedes took the simple yet smart approach by giving out large bags in which you would carry other freebies in. Basically steeling the hype from everybody else and promoting their brand throughout the show. Trying to bounce around to every single press event, I too had much interest in listening to what every CEO had to say. We all understand the ongoing challenges that automakers face. They worry about problems like appealing to a younger audience, fuel economy, green technology, in-car technology, brand awareness, their position in the car market, global expansion, and much much more. CEOs’ focused on saying the right things, while creating promises which would entice their share price to rise. Though I don’t own any stock whatsoever, it really interested me to see what they thought was important to the consumer. Ignite Presentations Later on that evening we had the pleasure of dining at Ford’s World Headquarters. There, people presented Ignite presentations. Ignite is a geek event in over 100 cities worldwide. At the events Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes. Seeing the presenter trying to keep up with their slides was amusing. Around 10 different individuals had a chance to present, and to be honest, I enjoyed every bit of it. On top of that, delicious food was served to us as well. Don’t know if I had mentioned this earlier, but every single day we ate like kings. It basically felt like there was a five star restaurant following us everywhere we went, providing enjoyable meals during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ford Research Facilities The next morning we visited Ford’s research facility. Owning so many buildings and land, Ford just should create their own city. While driving past numerous amount of parking lots, I noticed something interesting. Almost 80% of the employees have a Ford vehicle; no I did not do any sort of a scientific experiment, just a rough estimate that may be wrong. Reading this you might think it might be frowned upon to drive a competitor’s vehicle. Seeing their CEO’s interview by Joshua Topolsky at CES, Alan Mulally said himself that he drives competing vehicles all the time. That just shows how dedicated they are to bring you the best driving experience. Being our last day there, we visited different building to see what Ford employees are hard at work on. Without boring you to death, although some might find this interesting, we visited; Clay Modeling Lab Computer Generated Design Lab Human Machine Interface Lab Green Technology Lab Research and Innovation Center All Ford representatives explained their job specification/goals. We experienced things in the works, that won’t be out for years. Overall I learned a ton of info and would love to return again next year. I’ve took hundreds of photos, and picked out a few high quality ones for your viewing pleasure. The automotive industry thrives on design, and perfecting it is their everyday motive. Ford Fusion 2013 2012 Acura NSX Concept Audi RS5 Audi R8 GT Spyder 2012 Bentley Continental GTC Convertible Scion FR-S Coupe Concept Maybach 57 S 2012 Lexus LFA Smart Pure Coupe 2011 BMW I8 Concept Chevrolet Tru 140S Concept Falcon F7 Mercedes Benz SL Class 2012 2013 E-Class Hybrid I truly hope you enjoyed this article, and maybe learned something new. I strongly encourage everybody to go to as many events, meet-ups, and conferences as possible. Truth is, you only live once. Meeting awesome people and experiencing the world is what life is all about. For more inspirational articles don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS-feed and follow Inspirationfeed on Twitter+ Facebook! Seeing their CEO’s interview by Joshua Topolsky at CES, Alan Mulally said himself that he drives competing vehicles all the time.

That just shows how dedicated they are to bring you the best driving experience. Being our last day there, we visited different building to see what Ford employees are hard at work on. Without boring you to death, although some might find this interesting, we visited;

Clay Modeling Lab

Computer Generated Design Lab

Human Machine Interface Lab

Green Technology Lab

Research and Innovation Center

All Ford representatives explained their job specification/goals. We experienced things in the works, that won’t be out for years. Overall I learned a ton of info and would love to return again next year. I’ve took hundreds of photos, and picked out a few high quality ones for your viewing pleasure. The automotive industry thrives on design, and perfecting it is their everyday motive.

Everyone knows that Adobe revolutionized the way we think about designing on a desktop computer. The Creative Suite is found at nearly every marketing firm, ad agency, and creative office all over the world. It has been a tradition for designers to set up their workspace at a Mac and stay tied down to a desk for the duration of the work day. This inhibits the creative mind from exploring different settings which could deeply impact the design process. Tablets like the iPad, Samsung Galaxy, and Motorola Xoom are now catering to the design profession by carrying applications created by Adobe. Here are some of the tablet features that adobe software and hosting will feature to make design more accessible and creative: Drawing Without a Mouse There are ways to design on a desktop without a mouse. You can purchase a pen tablet that recreates a pad and paper, but fails to maintain an accurate interpretation of what you are drawing. You can also use a keyboard to manipulate the images on your screen. No matter how you look at it, there is no truly accurate way to draw on a desktop computer or laptop. Adobe has created their tablet applications with human ingenuity in mind. Instead of stumbling with a clumsy mouse or other device, tablet users can use their fingers to input line strokes, painting, and effects to their designs. This allows greater control over design because of direct manipulation. Creative Cloud According to PC World, Adobe’s Creative Cloud will be be released in early 2012. Designers with smartphones and tablets can use this hosting service to keep artwork created on a desktop stored for tweaks and adjustments. Users can also design projects on the go with a mobile device and use the familiar desktop software to make more powerful changes. Saving your images on the Creative Cloud will also allow design students to present their portfolios to employers more easily. Instead of carrying around a large portfolio, it is possible to just bring a tablet and showcase your interactive designs on it. A Bevvy of Apps While the Creative Suite gave us innovations like Illustrator, InDesign, and Flash, Adobe wants to create a new software platform for use on tablets and smartphones. The Adobe Ideas app, which allows users to create drawings with their fingers, is already available to purchase for only $5.99. The most anticipated app that will be available on devices is a mobile version of Photoshop. Now you have the ability to snap a mobile photo and manipulate it at any given moment. Other apps that will be available are Debut, Collage, Kuler, and Proto. All of these apps demonstrate the versatile interactivity that tablets allow designers. Subscription Software With the introduction of CS5.5, Adobe came up with the brilliant idea to charge a subscription fee to their users instead of making them pay up front for software. An entire premium package from Adobe costs $1900 at Staples. By not charging an upfront price for software, Adobe will reduce piracy and allow more people access to its software. Android Availability Adobe has predominately been used on the Apple iOS platform. PC users have never had the same accessibility, features, or versatility that Mac-users have had. Because Apple decided disable Flash capabilities on their mobile devices, Adobe has decided to roll out their new touch applications on the Google built Android Market before the Apple App Store. Android will be accepting Flash designed websites and apps for a few more years and Adobe wanted to show their appreciation by releasing on the most loyal platform first. With innovative touchscreen technology, designers no longer have to be shackled to a desk while working. Tablets will also make it easier for more people to get into the design world with the easy-to-use software and cheap features like cloud networks and subscription based software. This means that there will be much more innovative design work and more competition from people wanting to break into the field. Did you enjoy this article?
