Our brain can be easily compared to a browser with multiple tabs open at once. I think you and I can fairly agree that we both have different goals, daily tasks, ideas, and worries running constantly inside our brain. All this information is collected and stored like cache. Because we’re overwhelmed by this, we tend to run through life without enjoying or focusing on every single moment.

Now there is nothing wrong with having multiple tabs open, I do it all the time, however you need to clear your cache every now and then. Getting away to a nice, quite, and peaceful location is kinda like deleting cache from your brain. Letting go of your confined stress will help you think straight and face your problems with a sharp mind when you return.

I think cabins are a great way to clear your mind, spend time with nature, find inner peace, and recalibrate. Old Warehouse Repurposed into a Dream Office

Located in Old Town Irvine, California, this lima bean factory from 1895 was repurposed into a collaborative office space for creatives called SND CYN. Previously the building was used by Mattson Creative, an award-winning graphic design studio that focuses on creating visual language for vibrant brands, and now serves as a home to artists, designers, photographers, producers & developers. The new residents are able to enjoy an organic working environment that will make any creative professional envious. Enjoy!

Aspen Red Mountain Residence by Charles Cunniffe Architects

Recently featured in Aspen Sojourner Magazine, this high-end 10,000 square feet residence on Red Mountain is nestled into the mountainside and opens to views in all directions. The contemporary materials create a nurturing environment for the family. The stunning views from the living room bring peace, security, and affinity to the mind. Branding Ascendancy: Fuel Coffee Shop in Brighton, MA.

Fuel is a new “vintage-modern” American coffeehouse that celebrates friendships, inspiration, hard work, and the American “can-do” spirit. To “Ignite your Journey,” they offer custom coffee, better beverages, fresh foods and baked goods.

What caught my attention about this ordinary coffee shop, was the well executed all around branding. Richie Stewart of Commoner Inc, was commissioned to design the branding and packaging for Fuel Coffee. For further explanation on the process, check out the following quote:

“Our goal for the design was to play off the name of the brand and create a concept that referenced the aesthetic of old motor oil cans. We sourced some super shiny, metallic bags to suggest what the material of those cans would have originally been made of.

We did 1& 2 color prints on self adhesive labels with the main logo mark and style of coffee. These were then applied to each bag individually. Not only did this save on cost but it gave the finished product a slightly more human, handmade quality which mirrors the small batch roasting process in which the coffee was made.” - Richie Stewart

The vibe and experience portrayed thought the images really encourage me to take a trip to Massachusetts. I’m a big advocate of the retro and vintage design trend. Even if you’re not in the same boat, I truly feel that the style and execution of Fuel Coffee is worth admiring. Enjoy!

Old Shipping Containers Transformed into a House

This awesome residence, named the ‘WFH House’, was developed by a Denmark based architecture firm called Arcgency. Their team focuses on designing and building sustainable architecture while contemplating the life-cycle and reusability. By using old shipping containers as structural framework, the WFH House’s framework can adapt to local challenges such as climate and earthquake issues.

The WFH concept is a patented modular building system, based on a design principle, using 40 feet high standard modules as structural system. The structure can be configured to meet many different purposes like multi story, townhouses, cluster houses or individual villas. The shipping containers:

Result in a very short construction-period.
Are cost competitive in comparison with other green houses.
Easily demount for recycling or relocation.
Meets the demands in the international environment-building-standard, Active House.
Are top class indoor climate, low energy consumption and environmentally sound materials.

The Attendant: Abandoned Toilet Transformed into a Coffee Shop

Built around 1890 and mothballed in the 1960′s, the Attendant has been dormant for more than fifty years. After two-years of strategic planning and restoration, the old Attendant’s office has been turned into a little kitchen and the original porcelain urinals have become an inspired line with green seating to match the original Victorian floor tiles.

If you’re wondering about the cleanliness of this place, don’t worry it has been scrubbed and disinfected to the point where you can eat off the urinals… if you wish. The Attendant is located on 27a Foley Street, London W1W 6DY. They make everything fresh on the spot and support local British farms. Once there you can enjoy an epic breakfast, lunch, and all day snacks.

Invigorating Narrow House by Fujiwaramuro Architects

Fujiwaramuro Architects recently finished the Narrow House, a residential downtown house measuring just 36.95 sqm in Nada, Kobe, Japan. This incredible residence demonstrates that you don’t need a vast amount of space for cozy comfort. The home contains two bedrooms, kitchen, a garage, a living and dining room, and an additional storage room. All are spread across three floors with an opening in the middle. Copper House by Charles Rose Architects

Charles Rose Architects is an American architect whose designs reflect a keen feel for landscape and the distinct characteristics of a building site. Their recent renovation was a Colonial box with vinyl siding; it was poorly sited, and a garage cut it off from a spacious yard. Yet it had charm: cozy rooms, a downstairs bedroom suite, and ample usable space.

The project called for – adding a house to the existing house, and the complexity and challenge proved too hard to resist:

The garage was demolished and used as a driveway space.
The high-ceilings and open volumes of the planned addition did not align with the Colonial’s tighter and more compressed spaces.
Window frames became sculptural indentations.
Old panes were replaced with single sheets of glass.
A three-story atrium was placed inside, topped by six large skylights.
A steel-and-glass stair climbs from the stone atrium floor to upper level of the addition.
A curtain wall of glass runs the length of the kitchen and living spaces, bringing the outdoors inside.
The ground-floor stair, granite dining room server and blue-stone fireplace are designed to delineate room areas.

This beautiful lakeside cabin was conceived by Tom Kundig. The shelter in the woods accommodated a big window that opens to the surrounding landscape. The 30 feet by 20 feet windows open the entire living space to the forest and lake, making you feel as one with the nature. The materials used to complete this project are low maintenance – concrete block, steel, concrete floors and plywood. The outside notion of a cabin was left unfinished to naturally age and acquire a patina that fits in with the natural setting. Enjoy!
