I’m assuming you are not screaming with excitement like the lady on the article preview image. If you are, then…..great! If you haven’t heard of Klout yet then you could be missing out on something special. Klout is a relatively new platform that helps you to measure your influence across the Internet. Your Klout score can reveal a lot about your online presence and help you understand the areas in which you can improve.

What, and who is Klout?

Klout was founded in 2008 by online enthusiasts Binh Tran and Joe Fernandez. The company is based in San Francisco and has now expanded to employ over 40 people. Klout was set up to help measure and understand the importance of social influence online.

  1. Thank you for the article and also the bit broader look to the social measurement scape. I find Klout still to be in early beta phase and getting too much exposure for the value and type of measurement it currently uses. It basically ONLY measures your twitter activity, with some initial point bump for Facebook (and/or the facebook data is updating itself very slowly). Also it doesn’t take into account bloggers in a way that on average a professional blogger blogs in three different sites, with three different channels / channel groups for exposure. You can only put a one site of channels (or one set of accounts) to the service.

    The above and other issues can, and should be corrected, but the other critical perspective on the service is their extreme U.S. centricity at the moment. There are currently no benefits (and no benefits coming in the near future, if my sources are right) to people outside of U.S. They just cannot handle it.

    COming back to my intitial statement: they’re getting too much exposure for the stage of development / business they are in. Hopefully this doesn’t ruin the business for them as I find their idea very exciting.

    PS. I got my first Klout Perk a few weeks ago and was so excited I had to write an article about it in the blog. AS I said, the service is exciting, even though unfinished.

  2. Good article. Only issue with the perks is they are mainly US based which has made several people opt-out of Klout.
