6. Don’t ask too much at a time
It is never a good policy to ask the visitor to buy the product, as soon as he has landed on your website. You should take him through several steps, ensuring that each step should be subtle enough, that the visitors don’t hesitate in taking each step. Instead of making the call to action “Buy Now”, you should incite the visitor to have a look at your price plan, or your features list, or take a free trial or show him a good product video. Integrate a good analytical tool in your website, and analyze which step in the conversion chain is causing most drop-outs, and correct the problem with that.
A very good example of this strategy is adopted by salesforce.com. Once you land on your website, they don’t ask you outright to buy their products. Instead they ask you to take a free product trial, or view the demo video. Once you go for watching the demo video, they ask for your email address. And then they’ll remain in touch with you through emails, showing how great there product is, inviting you to join their webinars, so in the marketing words, they’ll ‘nurture the lead’, until you finally buy their product. This definitely takes time, but it unquestionably increases the conversion rate.
7. Live Chat Sales Support
Be there when your visitor needs you. Researchers have shown that live chat sales support can increase your conversion rate by 25%. By this, you can not only answer the queries of the visitor, which might have been stopping him from making the sales. It also increases the visitors trust and confidence in your website.
8. Use of Product Videos
On internet, everyone is short of time. People don’t have time to go through your long features lists to understand that your product is what they need. Place a well-made product video on your website, and tell the users what you have to offer and how that can benefit them. With the help of visual and audio aid, you can gain more attention of the visitor. Just a word of caution, don’t make the videos length more than 2 minutes. Instead, if the video length is around 1 min, that’ll be great.
9. Secure Payment Options
An important step in making sales is the payment processing step. People are very very sensitive about the internet frauds. They’ll never give up their credit card information on untrustworthy pages. Offer the checkout through the companies, they know about. Use PayPal, 2Checkout, Google checkout and other such secure and well-known payment gateways. Otherwise, you’ll be losing some potential conversions.
10. Don’t forget to the usability testing
Well, with all effort done at your part, don’t sit back and perceive everything as going okay. In almost all the cases, there are some problems, which the developers/owners eyes don’t catch. It is always a wise idea to get your design/website tested through others, to get an idea about what a user feel, while surfing your website. Some good and cost effective usability testing websites are fivesecondtest.com and usertesting.com. Do also integrate Google analytics or some similar analytics tool in your website. And try to find out the users behavior.
