Every so often, an art trend pops out and takes the world by storm. There is just something about the use of light, color, and shapes that really evoke feelings in people. Now, what these feeling are really depend on the person. However, one thing is for sure: oftentimes, great art will work to inspire people to create their own.
Modern Polygonal Art
One of the hottest trends today is something called “low poly” and it is indeed a wonderful way to create portraits. In case the term doesn’t sound familiar to you, it really is just a polygon mesh that uses a limited number of polygons to come out with some of the most famous faces of our time and history.
One look at these works of art and you can’t help but admit to feeling something akin to awe and wonder. After all, these are just colored polygons you are looking at but what you have in front of you are incredibly detailed portraits of people and characters.
You might think these portraits look kind of hackneyed and one-dimensional but take a look at that one of Pharrell or Kanye West and you really can’t say that.
Check out the portrait of Daenarys Targaryen and you can see that it is clearly the Mother of Dragons despite the fact that she is made of a limited number of polygons in a mesh.
The details on these things are a tribute to how talented their makers are and just how skilled they are in their craft. They spared no expense and made sure they used the low-poly technique in such a way that they stayed true to the craft but managed to come up with incredible work.
For aspiring designers who want to create low-poly portraits or those who are just looking for some inspiration, these are the works of art that you want to inspire and guide you.
In fact, you can use them as a template to create portraits of other famous people or the person that deserves a portrait the most – you!
The sky really is the limit with this type of art so get inspired and start working!
