8 Bit Art can refer to a style of synthesized electronic music called “chiptunes”, as well as a form of digital art called “pixel art”. Both chiptunes and Pixel Art can be more than 8-bits. Chiptunes, also referred to as “chip music”, are often made using sound hardware from old video game consoles or computer systems. Gameboys have become popular for live chip performers as they are very portable and can be played with ease on stage.

The Pixel Art Style is more than often associated with 1980s – early 1990s video game art. On of the most memorable video game that showcases great use of these digital graphics is Super Mario Brothers. I’m sure you might recall the classic that stole much productivity during it’s reign.

Seeing this kind of technological advancement in less than 20-30 yer, makes me wonder what the future of gaming holds. Our current games are so close to three dimensional reality, one might think they are watching a movie.
