Art Deco is characterized by strong lines and patterns, highly-defined shapes, and blocks of solid colors. This visual arts design first appeared in France after the First World War.
In the 1920s, Art Deco flourished internationally and the world grew aware of its characteristics. It’s a kind of eclectic style which combines modern and traditional design elements.
The Art Deco theme was initially a style adapted to a concentration of buildings, followed by art works. It is quite a unique blend of the old and the new.
What I like about Art Deco are the patterns which can be seen—both on architecture and artwork. The shapes, which often feature a combination of curves and striking linear additions, add a strong appeal to anything which can be considered as Art Deco.
This is particularly seen on buildings, and I swear I can spend several minutes just staring in awe at the patterns and the symmetry. On graphic prints, I really enjoy the strong colors. The high saturation of colors, the classy “faded” style of some pieces, and the use of retro-like fonts appeal to me.
There’s something about Art Deco which is unique and different from the usual modern illustrations that we’re used to nowadays, and this is what I love about it.
There are times when achieving a recognizable Art Deco look may seem challenging particularly when your style has been more on the modern side.
However, there are times when something you’re creating calls for a more traditional appeal that only Art Deco can bring. If that’s the case we collected some visually attractive design resources, which embody the Art Deco style, from Creative Market to help out.
If you’re in need of inspiration too, on the next page you will find beautiful Art Deco designs, illustrations, business cards, wedding invites, logos, etc. I hope you find these helpful and inspiring!
