Early Life
Dion Marquise Hayes was born on November 25, 1995, in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Not much is known about his parents and siblings.
Hayes experienced a rather troubled childhood. When he was fifteen years, he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of carjacking.
While in prison, Dion Hayes got involved in a fight with a fellow inmate and had his jail term extended to a total of six years. Part of his sentence included serving a month in solitary confinement on two different occasions.
Hayes got his stage name from his street life. The number “42” in his moniker is a numerical reference to the Hustle Boys. The Hustle Boys are a Detroit-based outfit of the dreaded Los Angeles-based gang – the 42 Gangster Crips.

42 Dugg took an interest in rapping during his incarceration. He started writing lyrics for some of his future songs while in prison.
After serving his prison sentence, Dugg met and befriended rapper Lil Baby. The two would later collaborate in numerous songs.
Hayes gained initial recognition for his singles “The Streets” and “STFU.” He jointly signed to 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Collective Music Group (CMG), labels by Lil Baby and Yo Gotti, respectively. The deals were signed in conjunction with Interscope Records.

The offense was allegedly committed on June 5, 2020, where Dugg run through a traffic stop sign while in a rented SUV. Following the incident, the rapper spent the next two months as a fugitive.
