Black diamonds are really gorgeous. They’re a great alternate selection for brides who are searching for a long lasting stone but want something a little bit different than the traditional white gem ring. We set out to discover the finest black diamond engagement rings out there, and boy, did we get some gems.
Dark gems may be gorgeous, but they’re far from simple! There are many kinds of darkish gemstones and they all have various features and valuations.
Natural Black Diamonds
Natural black diamonds are generally the same thing as white-colored gems, other than one thing: they have inclusions of graphite and random clustering in their framework. They are very rare and are discovered in very few locations. However, they are definitely more cost-effective than white or other colored diamonds simply because they are less in demand.
Treated Black Diamonds
Treated black diamonds are normal white gems that generally have a large volume of inclusions in them, and thus are not really valuable. Because of these inclusions, they are basically worthless as white ones. So, they get treated via irradiation or heat.
The treatment method is what can help to make the stone dark. These are the least expensive type of dark stone and are quite known to as colorless treated stones.
Faux Black Diamonds
It starts to get a little confusing here. There are many types of “faux” dark diamonds that are man-made, and they all are a bit different from one another.
There are lab-grown, synthetic, and simulant stones. Lab-grown stones are typically the same as natural ones, except, of course, they can’t be discovered in nature. Simulant gems, on the other hand, have various chemical substances and physical components.
This makes them very cheap (like find-a-$29-simulant-diamond-band). Make sure you do your due diligence to find out what kind of darkish precious stone is being used just before you purchase anything!
Grey Diamonds
What about grey diamonds? There are normally two main types of them: natural and salt-and-pepper. Natural grey precious stones are quite rare, and many of them get their color from a high concentration of hydrogen or boron. Salt-and-pepper diamonds are also discovered in nature.
These stones have an extreme presence of white and black inclusions. These inclusions have an impact on the stone’s clarity, providing it a unique appearance.
