I was more than impressed with Dominique Grubisa’s Business Turnaround Program. But I never realized that the best part would happen after the course was done.
As a small business owner, I’m constantly working against the grain, trying to find a new angle to succeed. It’s not easy to be a small business owner, and it sometimes feels like everything is against you. The government’s out to tax you and monitor every action you take.
The customers all demand lower prices in spite of the rising costs of doing business. And there’s always a competitor out there ready to take you down.
I kinda got tired of the struggle, which is how I came across Dominique and her Business Turnaround Program. At first, I wasn’t sure that it was for me. I mean, it’s basically targeting people who don’t want to start a business from scratch, but they are looking for ways to make money by buying a distressed business. Even as I sat down for the first session, everyone I met was basically less experienced than me.
“Is this for me? Is this even where I should be?”
But I soon found more than I bargained for when Dominique started her session.
Business Turnaround: Does It Work?
Ok, yes, I’ll admit, the morning sessions were aimed at the beginners in the room. I guess there were people of all backgrounds and experiences there to learn about it. I wasn’t there to learn some of the basics of business that Dominique Grubisa was teaching.
I’ve been doing this for years, and so when she’s talking about how to manage staff and improve cash flow, I thought I was going to have to gloss over this part.
However, I could see how important that kind of information would be for a beginner. Dominique was very thorough in what she taught. It also helped that she was teaching from a place of personal experience.
As a commercial lawyer, she’s privy to the behind-the-scenes action that most of us don’t see. She spoke at length about her experience working with businesses that were drowning in debt, about working with clients who were struggling with their own businesses, and how her experience in understanding corporate law can benefit the people taking this course.
Although it might be confusing at first for non-experienced business owners (I saw a few glazed looks when Dominique was talking about vendor finance and proper invoicing techniques), I can say first-hand that she was speaking my language. As a small business owner, I saw how she knew what she was talking about.
But the question is: could you do this if you had no experience? That’s a harder one to answer. Yes, Business Turnaround is going to give you a good grasp of the law, the opportunity, and the ways to make money.
Truthfully, the course focused so much on the legal aspects of a distressed business, and how to turn them around for fast cash flow (or even to sell) that there was no room for all the extra info you’d need to run a successful business.
I saw the gaps simply because I’ve been working in my own business for years, but for someone with little to no experience, I wonder if it’s the right thing.
That being said, I was more impressed with the community that DG Institute fosters, people who can step in and bridge the knowledge gap for those who don’t have the experience in running their own business first-hand. Domonique also offers her Elite Mentoring Program with her own team on the board that provide that extra level of support, a great option if you’re feeling overwhelmed,
Business Turnaround Program: The Takeaways
Once we got started, the DG Institute really proved themselves again and again. I learned some amazing new ways to think about going forward. Specifically, I learned:
How to find floundering businesses – When Dominique first talked about this, my ears perked up. I saw how I could actually use the experience I already have to find businesses that I KNOW wouldn’t be doing as well as they could. I always knew that my experience would come in handy, but now I have some strategies going forward that really excite me.
For one, I could easily spot competitors in my own industry (printing and design) and use the same principles that Dominique Grubisa teaches to get a larger customer base by acquiring those businesses.
How to appeal to owners – As soon as I latched onto the topic of acquiring my competitors, I immediately wanted to know how I could do it. Dominique actually took me step by step through the process of a deal that would look good to the owners of the businesses I’m looking to buy. She even had checklists and agendas that I could download from her site that makes me look like the expert (when I’m not at all).
The Timeliness Of The Market – I’ll admit that I don’t talk to my accountant that much, but I had no idea that the Australian laws have been changed to make this all possible. It was really just a year ago that the government changed the laws. That makes this course even more amazing that it’s so new.
Some of the courses you see out there offer information that’s 5-7 years old, making some of what they teach unusable. Not only is Dominique so up to date with her knowledge of the Corporations Act, but she’s teaching people how to use these laws when I’ll bet no one else is doing it.
Dominique Grubisa: Does She Have The Experience?
Without a doubt, I’m convinced that Dominique could help the right motivated person buy a distressed business, make it profitable, and sell it again. She was so thorough with everything she taught. But it was her knowledge of the law and the rights and responsibilities of owners that really convinced me.
She’s even quoting corporate law sections! It is also reassuring to know that Dominique won the 2018 Stevie Award for Female Entrepreneur of the Year in Australia. It just adds that extra slice of credibility, if all the info she gives wasn’t enough.
But like I said, the best part of the Business Turnaround program actually came after the course was done. I met all these people like me who wanted to simply fix their business, and the connections I made with the people at the course were incalculable. I have the phone numbers of actual people who’ve done this again and again, buying businesses, using the Corporations law to their advantage, and making a 20-30% return in just 3 months.
If I have questions, I know that I can rely on DG Institute or the people I met there to help me figure it out.
Business Turnaround Summary
Would I recommend this program to someone? Hmm. If I thought the person would find value in buying businesses, or they wanted a refined and proven strategy to do it, I would 100% say go for it.
But seeing as it’s so in-depth, I definitely don’t think it’s for everyone. But in saying that, I met people of all backgrounds there like property developers, small business owners, and regular Australian Joes that wanted a fair shake and a great way to get into business without starting one themselves. Business Turnaround is definitely for anybody, but not everybody, if that makes sense.
You’ve gotta meet Dominique and all her team at DG Institute. They’ll steer you right!
