1. How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Hiccup is a disappointing boy. His father is the chief of Berk, a community of Vikings who consider Hiccup too scrawny to fight the dragons that raid their village on a regular basis. However, the boy manages to wound a dragon and finds the creature in the forest but instead of killing the dragon, Hiccup befriends it.
As the dragon teaches him more about itself, Hiccup becomes a great handler of the village’s captive dragons. But when his final exam calls for killing a dragon, he embarks on a dangerous and unpopular quest to end the conflict once and for all.
2. Wallace and Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
It is time for Tottington Hall’s annual giant vegetable competition and everyone is looking forward to winning the coveted Gold Carrot Award. But rabbits are becoming a problem so Lady Tottington hires Wallace who runs a pest control business.
After Wallace and his beagle Gromit catches a rabbit, they bungle an attempt to wipe out the critter’s mind and desire for carrots. Right after the experiment, a giant were-rabbit terrorizes the town and when Gromit realizes that it’s Wallace, he races to save his friend from hunters.
3. Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Po is a kung fu obsessed panda who hates working at his father’s noodle shop. When a nearby celebration is about to pick the legendary Dragon Warrior, Po is unexpectedly selected by Grand Master Oogway after he falls into the arena.
Po is sent to train with the greatest fighters but upset about Oogway’s choice, his fellow students – the famous kung fu group known as the Furious Five – ostracize him. Initially making Po’s training as hard as possible, their teacher Shifu realizes that the Panda turns into a remarkable fighter when he craves food. This comes in handy when the valley is threatened by a dangerous ex-student of Shifu.
4. Shrek (2001)
Shrek is an ogre with a problem. He loves his privacy but after Lord Farquaad causes countless fairy tale creatures to squat on Shrek’s land, he accepts a deal. If Shrek can rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon and brings her back as Farquaad’s bride, Farquaad will remove the squatters.
Shrek and Donkey, his annoying companion manage to defeat the dragon. But Princess Fiona is not what she appears to be. Shrek has to overcome his own bitter view of life to realize the unusual and wonderful repercussions that she holds for him.
5. Madagascar (2005)
At the Central Park Zoo, a zebra called Marty wants to experience the wild. When he learns that the zoo’s penguins are breaking out one night, he follows them. His best friend, Alex the lion and their friends, Gloria and Melman, also leave but only to bring the zebra back to the zoo.
When authorities dart them and ship the animals to a Kenyan wildlife reserve, the four friends accidentally wash up on Madagascar. There they meet a hilarious community of lemurs but when they banish Alex for being a predator, Marty regrets his longing for the wild and hatches a plan to go back.
6. The Road to El Dorado (2000)
When con-artists Tulio and Miguel get their hands on a map, they realize that it shows the way to El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. In 1519, they hide on one of the ships led by conquistador Hernán Cortés and sail to the New World.
The map leads Tulio and Miguel to El Dorado where they are mistaken for gods. The friends enjoy the royal treatment and look forward to grabbing some gold. But as Hernán Cortés approaches they have to decide whether they want to leave with the gold or protect El Dorado from destruction.
7. Antz (1998)
Z is an anxious and free-spirited worker ant. Worn down by the daily grind and conformity of being a worker, he switches places with a friend, who is a soldier ant. When Z accidentally returns as the sole survivor of a battle, he gets to meet the queen but afraid his identity will be discovered he bolts and accidentally falls out of the nest, taking Princess Bala with him.
The two decide to search for Insectopia, a legendary place of plenty. However, when the rogue General Mandible abducts Bala and tries to destroy the colony, Z has to become a real hero and save the day.
8. Puss in Boots (2011)
Puss in Boots is a fugitive cat looking for magic beans. These beans can lead him to a castle where a goose lays golden eggs. When Puss meets Kitty, a cute girl cat, and they find the beans, everything appears to be on track.
But once they grab the goose, Puss has to deal with the murderous couple Jack and Jill and his traitorous childhood friend Humpty Dumpty, who also wants the goose at all costs.
9. Chicken Run (2000)
Ginger is a chicken desperate to escape from her coop. When any of her fellow hens do not lay enough eggs, their evil owners, the Tweedys, kill the unlucky chicken for dinner.
The movie follows the flock’s hilarious attempts to escape, all of which fail until a rooster, Rocky, lands in their chicken run. Convinced he can fly, Ginger convinces him to give the hens flying lessons. But time runs out as the Tweedys decide to turn them all into pies and Rocky disappears.
10. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002)
Born during the 19th century, Spirit is a stallion and the leader of a herd of wild horses. When horse traders capture Spirit and take him to a military fort. Despite his cruel training, he refuses to become tame. He is saved by Little Creek, a captive at the fort, who takes the stallion back to his Lakota village.
Although he meets a lovely mare, Rain, at the village he continues to resist Little Creek’s gentle efforts to tame him. But the three of them have to come together as a team to earn their freedom when the village is attacked by the fort’s soldiers.
11. Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)
Sinbad and his crew of pirates want to retire to Fiji. However, before they can spend the rest of their days relaxing in luxury, they have to steal one more thing. Sinbad plans to nab a magical artefact called the “Book of Peace,” and collect a ransom for its return.
But when Sinbad finds that his childhood best friend, Prince Proteus of Syracuse, is guarding the book and that other evil forces also want the artefact, they embark on a journey filled with danger and Sinbad learns the hard way what it means to be a good friend.
12. Flushed Away (2006)
Roddy is a pampered pet rat living in Kensington. After a sewer rat flushes Roddy down the toilet, he washes up in Ratropolis, a city made of junk and filled with rodents.
In his quest to return home, Roddy meets the streetwise Rita, who becomes his guide. But when they discover an evil frog is planning to destroy Ratropolis, Roddy gives up his life as a pet to save the city.
13. Over the Hedge (2006)
When the forest animals awaken from hibernation, they discover that the trees and fields are gone and they are now living in a housing development. RJ the racoon convinces them to steal food from the humans but it’s all a ruse. RJ plans on giving the stash to an angry bear he owes food to.
As RJ gets to know his fellow critters, he regrets tricking them to pay off his debt. When the humans hire an exterminator to get rid of them, RJ hatches a plan to rescue his friends and get rid of the bear.
14. The Croods (2013)
The Croods is a cave family scared of everything new. They believe that hiding and not being curious is a good way to survive. But the daughter of the family, the fiery Eep, is sick of hiding and one day, when everyone is asleep, she sneaks outside.
She meets a boy called Guy who offers to help the Croods survive a coming cataclysm but fearful, they go back to the cave. But when their home is destroyed, the family captures Guy so that he can lead them to safety. A great adventure follows and Guy teaches the Croods to truly live again.
15. Home (2015)
When Earth is invaded by aliens, humans are banished to remote locations of the globe. Despite their success, the invaders, called the Boov, are cowardly and are presently running from their enemy the Gorg.
The Boov move into human neighborhoods and one of them, a free spirit called Oh, decides to throw a housewarming party. But when Oh accidentally invites the Gorg, it takes the help of one human girl to save the Boov and Earth.
16. Penguins of Madagascar (2015)
This movie follows the feisty group of penguins that everyone first met in the original Madagascar film. Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private break into Fort Knox to steal cheesy snacks but inside the vending machine, they disturb Dave, a penguin-hating octopus.
They embark on a hilarious quest to stop Dave, who lost his place as the star attraction at their old zoo because the penguins are too cute. If they fail to stop his ingenious plan, Dave will use a special serum to turn all penguins into monsters.
17. Trolls (2016)
The tiny trolls are perpetually happy creatures but they have one enemy – the Bergens. A miserable race, they once captured all the trolls and believe they can only be happy if they snack on them. Poppy, the princess of the trolls, throw a big party to celebrate their escape from this horrible race twenty years ago. However, the lights and song attract the attention of Chef, a Bergen who recaptures most of the trolls.
Branch is a severe survivalist troll who normally hides in a bunker. But after the happy and hapless Poppy sets off to rescue her people, he reluctantly goes along to keep her safe. The result is a hilarious and heartwarming adventure.
18. Bee Movie (2007)
When Barry Benson, a honey bee, graduates from college he is excited to enter the hive’s workforce but during his first flight to collect pollen, he gets lost in the rain. He befriends a human woman named Vanessa who rescues him. But while staying with her, Barry realizes that humans have been stealing honey from bees for centuries.
He takes humans to court and the trial becomes a sensation. Barry wins and people are no longer allowed to buy honey. But as a result, all the bees lose their jobs and fowers are no longer pollinated. Barry has to race against time to reverse the damage and save the world’s last flowers.
19. Megamind (2010)
Years ago, two alien babies arrived on Earth. Metro Man was raised by rich parents and became Metro’s City superhero. The other, Megamind, became a supervillain and Metro Man’s nemesis after he was raised by prisoners.
The two constantly battle for control over the city and after Megamind defeats the hero, he realizes that his life is meaningless without an arch-nemesis. His attempts to resurrect Metro Man leads to the creation of a new villain. Megamind teams up with a reporter, Roxanne, to stop him but Megamind’s own hilarious dark side keeps getting in the way.
20. Abominable (2019)
When a young Yeti escapes his captors in Shanghai, he befriends a girl called Yi. When she learns that he wants to return to his family in Everest, she names him “Everest” and decides to help him. Along with two of her friends, Yi barely escapes when Mr Burnish, the businessman who first caught Everest, sends his goons after them.
During their journey, the yeti reveals his magical powers and uses his abilities to save them from their pursuers. But as they get closer to Everest’s home, the danger grows as Burnish’s team is determined not to let this unique creature get away and ruin their chance of selling him at an enormous price.
