Drew Blythe Barrymore is a popular American actress, producer, director, model, and talk show host. At 6, Barrymore gained recognition as a child actress with her role as “Gertie” in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster- E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial. Later that year, Barrymore became the youngest host of Saturday Night Live’s television show.
Since the nineties, she has starred in many successful films, including Never Been Kissed, Poison Ivy, Charlie’s Angels, Boys on the Side, Mad Love, Scream, Batman Forever, and Ever After. She also starred in Whip It, her directorial debut in 2009. Early Life and Career Information
On February 22, 1975, Drew Barrymore was born in Culver City, California, to aspiring actress Jaid Barrymore and American actor John Drew Barrymore. The Barrymores are a famous American acting family. Drew’s grandfather, John Barrymore, and his siblings Ethel and Lionel were notable actors. As such, she comes from a long line of renowned actors.
She grew up at Poinsettia Place, West Hollywood, and later moved to Sherman Oaks when she was seven. Barrymore attended Fountain Day School in West Hollywood and subsequently enrolled in Country School. She lived through a notoriously troubled childhood and was placed in rehab at 13 because of her excessive drug and alcohol intake. The following year, she was back in rehab after a suicide attempt.
At 15, she moved into her apartment after a juvenile court granted her petition for emancipation from her parents.
