Let’s get one thing straight. Packaging design is very important, whether you like to admit it or not.
With tons of different products available to the average consumer, companies are constantly fighting each other to get your dollar. From pricing gimmicks to product placement, food companies are trying to get a leg up on the other guy each and every way possible.
The best way to get a leg up on your competitor is to obviously have beautiful packaging design. Just kidding, the product actually has to be good. That should be your number one priority. Having good packaging design but a terrible products would be like:
- Marrying a beautiful blonde, and then finding out she’s a soulless gold-digger.
- or
- Buying a Ferrari and then finding out it has no engine.
Packaging is something we’re constantly bombarded with on a daily basis. Go to your local food store, gas station, or retail store and you will find all sorts of shameful and clever packaging designs.
Some people argue that packaging is a waste of money and eventually ends up in a landfill. Well, I would have to disagree with the first statement, because packaging is a part of the buying experience. It’s the product before the product. Go on Youtube right now, search for “Unboxing,” and look at the views. People eat that stuff up.
Secondly, there are plenty of companies who use biodegradable packaging. The problem lies with the consumer. If everybody decided to stop buying packaging that wasn’t eco-friendly, guess what? Companies would be basically forced to switch and please you. If they didn’t, they would be out of business. (I find it hilarious that some people still don’t realize that they vote each and everyday with their wallets.)
Today we have an amazing collection of packaging designs that scream “BUY ME!” You can never make a second first impression. So be sure to have your product looking sharp. You’ll impress current customers and even attract new ones. Enjoy!
