Thanks to technology, you’re no longer tied to one place geographically. Ever since laptops and tablets were introduced and dial-up internet connections gave way to Wi-Fi, location independence has been possible for everyone with the desire to start their own business or work from home.
Of course, this sort of lifestyle isn’t for everyone, though most people only figure this out when they try it for themselves. This is a particularly troubling thought as you would need to quit your job to do so.
Location-independent entrepreneurs frequently work as graphic designers, developers, freelance writers, photographers, affiliate marketers, web designers, and sometimes they simply pick up odd jobs as they go. Being location independent takes guts and hard work. If it was really easy, everybody would be working remotely and the world as we know it would be an entirely different place.
Today I will go over the benefits of being location independent. Please keep in mind that this isn’t some pyramid scheme, a scam, or simply a fantasy. This is 100% legit. You can find multiple people on the web who are location independent. The only reason some people think that it’s a dream or simply a gimmick is because they’re not willing to put in the hard work.
1) You’re the Boss
There’s nothing more exhilarating than being your own boss, though this is, of course, only one side of the equation.
If you have recently made the move into freelancing, you probably realized that in order to succeed you have to put up with the good and the bad. That is, you have to enjoy the experience of being in charge, but at the same time be willing to deal with all of the challenges that come along with it.
The idea of being your own boss might sounds cool, but until you actually try it, you will not know what it’s really like.
2) You Can Work from Different Beaches Around the World
More often than not, this is the image that pops in people’s minds when they think of becoming location independent. And for the most part, it’s completely true; you really can work from different beaches all around the world, as well as at local parks, in cafés and coffee shops, in certain co-working locations, and even aboard cruise ships.
Because more and more individuals are working in this way, it’s become possible to register your company in your own country so as to receive important forms and other information while you’re sunning yourself abroad. In this manner, a virtual office is a means for you to stay updated with the goings-on in your business. If you plan on travelling for an extended period, this is ideal.
3) Technology Makes Remote Working Easy
Though you may discover that location independence in itself isn’t for you, you should note that technology has made remote working very easy. This means there are very few (if any) things you won’t be able to do from the road that you would have been able to do from your home office. As long as you have internet access, you’re golden.
There are so many useful applications and products out there that you can no longer make any excuses. Most of your perceived problems can be easily solved if you’re willing to dedicate your personal time to find the solutions. The best thing is that this trend is only going to continue, and as technologies improve, so will the capabilities of remote workers.
4) You’ll Benefit from Cheaper Living Rates
There are many reasons to move to another country; to experience a new culture, to learn a new language, and indeed to meet new people.
One reason that isn’t mentioned as much as it should be is that moving to another country enables you to benefit from their cheaper living rates. If you live in an expensive western country right now, chances are you’d be able to live like a king or queen in a different nation not too dissimilar to the one you’re currently living in; or indeed you could put money aside into a savings account and let it grow indefinitely.
5) Improve Your Outlook and Perspective
Being location independent will allow you to experience many different cultures. I don’t want to point fingers, however I can safely say that most Americans don’t have a clue about the “outside” world. They only know what they’ve read or seen on television. They’ve most likely lived in the United States their entire life and have never experienced how people from other countries live. Traveling will change your perspective. It will make your more humble and appreciate the beauty of life.
Conclusion
Before I let you go let’s take a look at one of my favorite words. Independent. What does that word really mean? Being independent means to think for yourself, rely on yourself, have confidence, do things for yourself, use your own judgment, and not become spoiled in any way. These are all great things to be.
Smart people know that life does not “happen” to them. They create their life. They plow their way forward. They are ready to take on new challenges and continue to learn new things. They will not give up and feel sorry for themselves.
With that said, do you think that location independence is for you? If the answer is yes, make sure that you are prepared to face challenges and enjoy your hard earned rewards. After all, working isn’t always flowers and butterflies.
