Allison Stokke developed an interest in athletics from a young age. She looked up to several role models, including her older brother who was already making waves in the gymnastic community.
Stokke tried her hands at gymnastics before branching off to pole vaulting. She began pole vaulting seriously while in high school and went on to become a nationally acclaimed young vaulter.
In 2004, during her high school freshman year, Stokke vaulted 12 feet 7+3?4 inches and subsequently broke the record for a high school freshman. She excelled her own record the following year by vaulting 13 ft. 5+3?4 in.
Constant practice and sheer determination were instrumental in inspiring Allison Stokke’s incredible high school stats. The talented pole vaulter bagged two wins at the CIF California State Meet despite approaching both championships with a leg injury. During her senior year in high school, Stokke became the second-best national high school vaulter after setting a new personal best of 13 ft. 6+3?4 in.
Allison continued pursuing her pole vaulting career into college. She was a member of the UC Berkeley’s California Golden Bears track team and competed at two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Championships.
Allison Stokke’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed. She received All-American accolades during the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Stokke unsuccessfully tried to join the 2012 United States Olympic Trials (track and field). She was among those who did not clear the opening height of 13 ft. 11+1?4 in. That setback didn’t dampen her spirits though, as she continued to pole vault after graduating from UC Berkeley.
However, Stokke’s performance gradually declined over the next couple of years. She eventually retired in 2017, citing a lack of desire to continue competing professionally in the sport.
Besides pole vaulting, Allison Stokke also modeled for a few brands. She appeared in commercials for Nike and Athleta in 2015. The following year, she collaborated with Uniqlo and GoPro.
