Francois Rybarczyk is 24 year old industrial designer currently living in San Francisco, USA. He works for an award-winning global design firm IDEO. I recently stumbled upon his personal project titled ‘Sony XTRUD.’ I was inspired by his view on the smartphone industry and decided to share this concept with you today.
Because of fast paced technology, we tend to purchase a brand new mobile phone almost every year. But what if I told you don’t need to buy a brand new cell phone ever again…
The Sony XTRUD concept delivers an economic/sustainable vision to the mobile phone world. The main idea behind XTRUD, is to provide the customer with a very simple aluminum or plastic profile. Because of its core architecture the user can easily replace the phone components as he/she pleases. Desktop owners are able to purchase new parts like a larger hard-drive, powerful video card, and a new motherboard without having to buy an entirely new computer. Why can’t cell phones have a similar business model?
