Early Life and Career Information
Stephen Gilchrist Glover, popularly known by his stage name, Steve O, was born on June 13 in Wimbledon, London, England. His father is American, and his mum is Canadian. As such, he holds British, American, and Canadian citizenship.
His father, Ted Glover, was a successful business executive who, due to the nature of his job, moved his family a lot. By the time he was 12, Steve-O had lived in five countries. As a result, Steve-O became a multilingual master, speaking English, Spanish, and Portuguese fluently. Because his parents were always busy, he was raised mainly by live-in maids and received little parental attention.
He studied at the American School in London (ASL), after which he attended the University of Miami and the University of New Mexico. Due to his poor academic performance, he was eventually forced to drop out. It was at that point that he realized he wasn’t cut out for traditional education. He then went to clown school at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, where he graduated in 1997.
His first break in the entertainment industry came in 2000 when he was selected to be on the Jackass crew, a stunt-based television show. Before then, Steve had been pitching his stunt clips to Big Brother, a skateboarding magazine, while performing in the flea market circus. Little did he know the person receiving the video clips was Jeff Tremaine, the magazine editor and future director of the Jackass show.
The show, which ran for three seasons, featured a cast of nine carrying out stunts and pranks on each other or the public with the catchphrase, “Don’t try this at home!” It was a massive success that gained traction in the 2000s. After the show ended in 2002, it spawned sequels and spin-off shows which include: Wildboyz, Totally Busted, Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, The Dudesons Movie, and Jackass 3D, and Jackass 3.5.
Aside from the Jackass franchise, Steve-O had also made appearances in “The Howard Stern Show,” “Love Island,” and “The Dean Blundell Show.” He has two MTV Movie Award nominations: Best Jaw-Dropping Moment (2011) for Jackass 3D and Best On-Screen Duo (2003) for Jackass: The Movie.
