Twenty-nine years ago, I was born with a conditional known as Muscular Dystrophy. A condition that confines me to a wheelchair from where I carry out most of my daily activities. When I was 8 months old, my family found out that I would never be able to walk. It took them by surprise and my mother suffered severe depression for about a year. When she overcame the depression, her goal in life became to make me an independent lady by educating me.
When I was younger I went through countless struggles. In order to get admitted in schools I had to pass rigorous monthly tests to prove that I could study. There were times I felt discouraged and wanted to simply give up, but thanks to the support of my family and friends today I am a Lawyer, Psychologist, and a Motivational Speaker.
My dreams have come true and for this reason my goal is to be an ‘Inspirational Agent’ to this world. The truth is when we set our minds to achieving something and work hard towards it, it will automatically happen as long as we truly believe in ourselves.
I believe no matter what, I am able to overcome my obstacles and reach my goals because I know my full potential. I believe in “Surfing beyond the Limits.” By this I mean we set limits for ourselves. I used to think there are many things I couldn’t do, but that’s not true. Just recently I went skydiving, had a blast on a water rollercoaster, experienced a wind tunnel, and swam with a dolphin.
In 2010, my friends encouraged me to start an inspirational group on Facebook. It’s called My Inspirational Page. This page is for sharing my struggles and to show everyone that there is nothing impossible as long as we’re determined and courageous. This page is for people to express themselves because expression is where it all begins.
When I first started this group, I found it very difficult to express myself. As time progressed my self-confidence increased and I started to share many personal insights with friends and strangers. The page has had great results and even changed people’s lives. I feel so grateful that something I created has improved even one person’s life.
What I find peculiar is that many of us go through life complaining day in and day out about the things we don’t have. Appreciate where you currently are and what you currently have. Sometimes I go through days of severe pain and muscles aches. I can’t even get out of bed for hours. I’m not saying this for you to feel sorry for me. I’m telling you this because I want you to take advantage of each and every day you’re given.
Life and health are the two blessings we should all be grateful for. Even if you’re a multi-billionaire, you can’t buy health. Many people associate wealth with money, but they couldn’t be more wrong. I’ll let you in on a little secret: Health is wealth. Without good health you would constantly be miserable. So take care of your body, it’s the only one you have.
I hope my story will inspire you to not make excuses in your life and to go after whatever you desire. Before I let you go, I would like to leave you with an important message:
“There is nothing impossible in this world. Believe in yourself. Put your dreams into actions. When they come true, the joy you feel will be indescribable. Take more risks and never get too comfortable. Take care of yourself, your friends, and your family. For all we know, we only get one life.”
