A lot of people take gratitude for granted. Being thankful for everything around you goes far beyond thanking your barista after handing you your cup of Joe. It’s a habit.
For instance, after waking up in the morning, do you smile and whisper thanks for the chance of another day? Or do you remember to be grateful for the strangers who opened doors for you when your hands were full?
A Way of Life
Being appreciative should be a part of your life. This doesn’t mean simply being thankful for material stuff, such as your house, car, or wealth. It could be for simple things too, like good food to eat, friends to keep, and family to come home to. There are Holidays that allow us a chance to express our gratitude. Thanksgiving for example, is a great day to show how you appreciate your friends and family.
The Christmas season is another Holiday that gives us a similar opportunity. Through gifts, preparing food, and spending time with loved ones, we can show how much they mean to us. But don’t stop there! You can demonstrate your gratitude to anyone at any given day. It doesn’t have to be Christmas or a birthday. In fact, you can show appreciation for people and for life in various ways, every day.
Simple Ways To Be Thankful
You don’t need to shower friends and family with gifts to show you love them. Simple, every day gestures will do. Making eye contact when they talk is a good start. For a few minutes, take the time to truly listen to what someone has to say instead of tinkering with your phone.
Doing chores you don’t like is another. If you’re living with roommates for instance, remember all the times they picked up the laundry or did the dishwashing. Be thoughtful and do it for them, too. Especially when they have exams or go on overtime at work. Take a little load off of them and show that you’re a fantastic roommate!
