If you’re hosting an event that requires ticket purchase, you can’t slack on the design of the ticket. Although your customers likely won’t see the ticket until after they purchase it, a carefully designed ticket may enhance a customer’s experience of your event. Designing a great ticket may seem challenging, especially if you’re not a graphic designer.
Follow the tips below, to create the perfect ticket for your event1
1. Determine the information you want displayed on the ticket.
It’s crucial that you do this before you start creating the ticket. You want to make sure that all of the relevant information is there without too much irrelevant content. If you put too much on the ticket, it may end up looking cluttered.
Certain things need to be on the ticket like the event name, time, and location. The amount of information you want on the ticket will determine the layout and size of the ticket.
2. Choose the logo or image you would like to print on the ticket.
Logos or images are great to put on a ticket, because they remind the customer what the ticket is for without having to read it. Large or extremely detailed images likely won’t print well on a ticket, because tickets typically aren’t big enough to host them.
Small images and logos are ideal. You also probably don’t want the graphic taking up too much space on the ticket. This can distract customers from the rest of the information on the ticket.
3. Figure out how you want the layout of the information on the ticket.
Remember, the less information you need to put on the ticket, the better. If the ticket is too cluttered, it will be hard to read. Minimal designs will be appreciated by many of your customers. If done right, they can convince your customers that your tickets are highly elegant.
You can choose between a landscape or a profile orientation of your ticket. Which orientation is better for your ticket depends on how much information you want on the ticket and the size of your logo or image.
4. Make sure your text is readable.
You should look around to find the perfect font for your ticket. This font should be readable but also reflect the character of your event. Furthermore, make sure that the most important parts of the text on the ticket stand out.
For example, you could try making the event name bold. The most important information should also be placed in an area on the ticket where it is easy to find, such as at the top. You could also experiment with the color of the font, if you’d like.
If you choose to do this, remember to see how it looks on the color your tickets will be before you print it. For example, using a light blue font might be acceptable on a white ticket, but on a dark blue ticket, it likely won’t be very readable.
5. Determine the size you want your ticket to be.
If you don’t want your ticket to stand out too much, you could make it a common size, such as 5.5” by 2.125”. The information you want displayed on the ticket and the layout of your ticket will determine how large your ticket needs to be.
You should make sure that the ticket is readable. Also, you should make sure that it’s large enough. Smaller tickets are easier to lose. A lost ticket could really ruin your customer’s experience of your event.
6. Avoid clutter at all costs.
If you have some extra white space on your ticket, that’s totally fine. You don’t necessarily have to make your ticket smaller. Extra space will likely make your ticket more readable and appealing. Additionally, if you are making a ticket that the customer will write on, you need to remember to leave space for the customer to write.
Overall, extra space is a good thing if you know how to use it. If everything is cluttered on one side of the ticket and there is a bunch of empty space on the rest, your ticket likely needs revision.
7. Print your ticket as you design it to see what improvements need to be made.
Printing your ticket a few times before you do the final print can be really beneficial in ticket design. It’s often the case that things don’t look how we think they will. If you test print the ticket along the way, you can avoid some potentially catastrophic situations.
