Early Life and Career Information
Toya Johnson-Wright was born on October 26, 1983, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Walter Andrews and Anita Johnson-Andrews.
Johnson became famous following her high-profile marriage to rapper Lil Wayne. The two reportedly met at a cornerstone in New Orleans when Toya was 12 years old and Lil Wayne was 13.
At the age of 14, Toya became pregnant with Lil Wayne’s daughter. At the time, Lil Wayne had already signed to Cash Money Records but was yet to establish himself as a rapper.
Following the birth of their daughter Reginae Carter on November 29, 1998, Lil Wayne decided to pursue his rapping career seriously so he could support his child. The couple eventually married on February 14, 2004, years after Lil Wayne had achieved mainstream success as a rapper.
But after only two years in marriage, the couple decided to go their separate ways. According to Toya, it was proving difficult to cope with her husband’s celebrity lifestyle. However, Toya and Wayne have maintained a healthy relationship even in divorce.
On June 18, 2011, Toya Johnson made news once again for holding a high-profile wedding, this time with Mickey Wright. Some of the guests in attendance were Tameka “Tiny” Harris, rapper Rasheeda, Monica Brown, Laurel London, Tamar Braxton, Nivea, and Kandi. Toya would separate from Wright in 2016 after nearly four years in marriage.
But while she rose to prominence courtesy of her highly-publicized relationships, Toya Johnson is currently famous as a television personality, businesswoman, and author.
In 2009, Toya and Tameka Harris began starring on a reality television show called Tiny and Toya, aired on BET. The show ended in 2010.
In 2011, Toya began starring in another reality show on BET called Toya: A Family Affair. She starred in all 16 episodes throughout the show’s one season.
