Despite our attempts to find the silver lining in 2020, one thing’s for sure: that year still sucked. With the pandemic, the rising unemployment, and overall negativity, it was difficult to imagine how it would it all end. That was, until December 24, when social media blew up with memes about one specific incident.
If you haven’t heard ‘the tea’ yet, here it is.
How It Happened
On December 24, 2020, a Twitter user uploaded a video about a brawl that took place in a convenience store in Elyria, Ohio. There were some folks who claimed it happened at Circle K convenience store on Broad Street.
The now viral video shows a guy (possibly intoxicated) throwing racial slurs and provoking the man behind him. That man is named Barry Allen (based on an interview with Mark One Sports Show). Allen tried to keep his cool and calmly asked the intoxicated chap to stop calling him the N-word, but he persisted.
This time, Allen grabbed a can of Twisted Tea from the counter. Armed with the hard iced tea, he smacked the guy on the face, simultaneously bursting the can open, its contents spewing like justice served ice cold. The guy lunged at Allen, but he was soon overpowered and on the floor, with our hero delivering four punches before walking away.
And of course, after the video was uploaded online, Barry Allen became known as Mr. Tea-KO, and Twisted Tea, a weapon against racism.
There’s really no true secret to viral fame or the success of a brand. Often, it’s a matter of being at the ‘right place at the right time’. And as if it was destiny indeed, the same could be said for #twistedteaguy. So to your delight, here are the latest – and most hilarious – Twisted Tea memes.
