His fans know him as XXXTentacion, the controversial rapper and songwriter who entered the Billboard Hot 100 with his hit song, ‘Look at Me’. What started on SoundCloud became a massive explosion of emo, trap, lo-fi, indie rock, and nu metal mixed with hiphop that has its own loyal following.
Brief Career Timeline
Born as Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy on January 23, 1998, in Plantation, Florida, Jahseh or XXXTentacion, had a troubled childhood growing up. But he was born a fighter.
In his teen years, he became interested in music, particularly nu-metal, hard rock, and rap. His mother and grandmother encouraged him to pursue this passion, eventually helping him write and record his first song around 2012-2014.
He was sent to juvenile-detention around the same time as well for gun possession. It was then that he met fellow rapper Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne, more commonly known as Ski Mask the Slump God. They would collaborate on songs such as OFF THE WALL, RIP Roach, Broly, and more throughout his short career.
In 2015, XXXTentacion released his first big single on SoundCloud, ‘Look at Me’. But it won’t be a huge hit until much later, in February of 2017, when it would enter the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 95, and then at No. 24 in April. Despite his growing success, he has been embroiled in plenty of controversy, including domestic violence and assault.
On June, 2018, Jahseh was killed in an alleged drive-by shooting in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
