It seems that every New Year brings with it new trends in almost every aspect of one’s life, and this year is no different. Recently, there has been a sudden interest in images made from double exposure photos to gorgeous low poly portraits that you could spend hours looking at.
Then, there is also the rather mysterious sounding “Zentangle.” Just repeat that name to yourself a couple of times and you can sense a certain mystery to it.
What is Zentangle?
The term “Zentangle” may be totally new to you so to untangle the mystery of the term, all you need to know is that it is an easy way to come up with great artwork using structured and repetitive patterns.
With that simple definition in mind, you will also want to delve deeper and that said, Zentangle art works are really just miniature pieces of abstract, unplanned, and black-and-white materials.
It is a very specific method that uses simple and structured patterns that are called tangles. They usually measure 89mm per square tile. That might sound a bit complicated but nothing can be further from the truth. These Zentangles, for all their beauty, are fun and relaxing to create.
In fact, it has been said often enough that the process of coming up with a zentangle is a form of “artistic meditation.” What usually happens is that the artist becomes so absorbed with making a pattern that they become focused on the one-stroke-at-a-time concept.
There are no rules as to what images you can make and really, anyone can come up with a Zentangle. The method will bring about a sense of well-being along with a sense of satisfaction at what has been created. This is an art form that is suitable for people of all ages and skill level.
