The fear of every blogger is that no one will read all of the posts that have been carefully planned and written—a fear that can be easily alleviated. While every blog starts with a small band of readers, there are many simple ways to not only draw in readers but to keep them coming back to read more. Here are five ways you can start promoting your blog content effectively today:
Host Guest Posts on Your Blog
There are very few successful blogs that do not incorporate guest posts in some way. Besides giving the host blogger a break, they bring some other great benefits. According Darren Rowse at ProBlogger, guest posts are a win-win situation for the host and the guest blogger since they both gain extra exposure to new readers. In addition, the readers of the host’s blog are able to enjoy a fresh perspective on a topic.
Target a Passionate Audience in Your Blog Posts
A blog post should be naturally appealing to readers who are passionate about it and are willing to share it. According to the site SEO Moz, “When strategizing about who you’re writing for, consider that audience’s ability to help spread the word. Some readers will naturally be more or less active in evangelizing the work you do, but particular communities, topics, writing styles and content types regularly play better than others on the web.”
For example, if you’re targeting young parents in your posts about products for newborns, include testimonies of other parents readers will relate to. If you write about politics, create an info graphic that explains your content and is easy to share.
Optimize Your Blog for SEO
There are some simple ways to optimize your blog so that search engines can easily find it, such as creating a relevant, keyword rich title and metatags. Rand Fishkin explains, “SEO, done right, should never interfere with great writing. In fact, hopefully, it can help, by giving you a spark of imagination or inspiration about what readers want, how they think and where the core of their quest to discover new things begins.”
For example, if you’re writing a travel blog, then you can use Google’s AdWords tool to figure out which words readers in your niche are already using to find information about travel. Once you’ve collected the keywords in your niche, you can still write great travel articles, but you will also know which words need to be mentioned throughout your post in order to help you rank higher for search engines.
Link to Related Posts and Topics at the End of Blog Posts
When you have a visitor at your blog, you have a golden opportunity to introduce that reader to the rest of your writing. Corey Eridon of HubSpot writes, “If your reader was interested enough to click-through to your blog post… it stands to reason that your reader might like to read the other content you’ve written on the subject. That’s why it’s a great idea to include links to related blog posts you’ve written on the subject in the bottom of your blog posts.”
If you use a Content Management System like WordPress, there are a variety of related post and popular post plugins that you can install and customize in order to direct readers to specific posts and pages on your blog.
Integrate Blog Content Elsewhere
You can also gain more exposure for your blog by referencing your best blog posts in discussion forums, FAQ pages, social media sites, and E-mail newsletters. Corey Eridon offers one suggestion from HubSpot: “a prospect in the top of your sales funnel that has viewed a lot of HubSpot’s past Facebook content might be interested to receive our post about the most inspiring Facebook brand page designs. Just be sure to include calls-to-action in all of your posts so traffic that converts from the email can reconvert on the blog!”
In other words, once you create something on your blog that is useful for your customers and clients, keep thinking of ways you can link to it elsewhere and integrate it into your website and communication campaigns.
The best part about a blog is that today’s content isn’t irrelevant tomorrow. You can still link to your best posts and share them elsewhere. You can easily optimize your blog and find reader niches that will draw in ideal readers. Promoting your blog just takes a little bit of time and planning in order to reach a larger number of readers.
