40 Creative Examples of Facebook Timeline Designs

Recently at the F8 Conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced a massive redesign to our favorite* social media website. Honestly the new updates are understandable and from their point of view provide a better experience for the end user. From a personal point of view, each time they implement a change I get more confused, frustrated, and unwillingly forced to learn the new layout. When will they leave it alone? I have no idea. Twitter had a major redesign a couple of months ago, and that was easy to learn. C’mon now Facebook.

Facebook Timeline is a unique idea that has been getting some heat lately. Basically speaking it’s a story of your life that is visible to you as well as your friends. With privacy being a widely discussed issue on Facebook, Timeline completely diminishes that case. Most of the geeks in the community frown upon this feature, because your life is given to advertisers. Now they can target you based on your history. Very creepy to think about and makes me want to think twice before activating the feature.

Now let’s look at it on the flip side. In the video on their Introduction Page, it shows a young boy growing up while everything he has done being archived. His life becomes a digital scrapbook. Most of the people that have joined Facebook already passed their childhood and were probably a young adult when they joined. So in reality for the older folks using Facebook Timeline, everything is recorded from when they joined Facebook. Keep in mind that’s no earlier than February 4, 2004.

Currently you have to be a developer to gain access to the new design because it’s still in the beta phase. Supposedly the feature should of started to roll out on October 6th. However a recent federal suit has been brought against Facebook by Timelines.com.  They argue that the new feature will threaten its’ business. At this point we don’t know the outcome might be, but keep in mind………..if a check is written for a desired amount all issues disappear!
