Mention any reference to Star Wars, and you would expect a few people around you, whether you know them or not, to react. This is how iconic the entire franchise has become. It is not something that is exclusive to a specific culture. It has actually created a culture of its own that spans different nations and groups of people.
The Star Wars Effect
Why is Star Wars so popular? For one thing, it has had a huge impact on so many different levels. On the entire concept of filmmaking, for instance, Star Wars has created the bridge through which traditional moviemaking could turn into a more technology-based practice.
After all, special effects were not exactly all that before Star Wars came. But since it was first released in 1977, Hollywood was suddenly dreaming bigger dreams as far as futuristic illusions on screen are concerned.
Fox will also not be as huge if not for Star Wars. Its financial impact was so big that its stock value jumped from $6 to $25. It was on the verge of bankruptcy at that time and was holding on for dear life. The moment they released Star Wars, their future suddenly changed.
As for popular culture, Star Wars obviously had a huge impact with common references involving the evil empire and Yoda’s way of talking all over social media until today, decades after the first film was released.
Darth Vader is someone everybody knows, and light sabers are still considered cool even by grown men. It has created such a stir that it even has its own holiday celebrated by fans everywhere, with the pun turning “May the Force be with you” into “May the 4th be with you”.
Star Wars Memorabilia
With all this buzz about Star Wars even up to now, it is not surprising how valuable the brand’s memorabilia has become. From action figures to fake light sabers, people actually go all out in spending money to get all these.
As for designers, Star Wars has also had a special effect on them. The franchise has become a source of inspiration for many, which resulted in the creation of some of the most amazing works of art based on the concept.
