1. Legend (2015)
Based on the true story of the Kray brothers who, beginning in the 1960s, became notorious figures in the London criminal underworld. 2. Locke (2013)
Ivan Locke is one day away from supervising the biggest civilian concrete pouring project in Europe’s history. The job is in Birmingham but the night before, he gets a call that makes him decide to go to London instead. He’s a married man but the woman he has had a one-night stand with is about to have their baby and he wants to be there.
The movie follows Locke as he makes the drive to London and takes phone calls from his boss, wife, the woman in London and his sons. Locke’s life falls apart as he confesses his cheating and gets fired but he is determined not to abandon his new baby as his own father did.
3. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
When a war over the last resources leads to the collapse of civilization, the survivors of humanity had to fend for themselves in a desert world. Max Rockatansky is a prisoner of the feared Immortan Joe’s army and inadvertently gets the chance to escape when his captors pursue a new target. Furiosa, one of Joe’s lieutenants, has run away to free her leader’s unwilling wives and to find a beautiful green place she remembers from her childhood.
Max and Furiosa team up to weather epic and violent encounters with their pursuers, treacherous allies, and a risky journey that may or may not lead them to a better world.
4. The Drop (2014)
Bob Saginowski tends a bar in Brooklyn but this is no ordinary 9-to-5 job. Bob works as a “drop” for his boss Marvin who allows mobsters to deliver or collect their illegal funds at his business. But when the bar is robbed, Bob realizes that Marvin had orchestrated the theft of the gangsters’ money.
As he looks deeper into the robbery, Bob has to deal with irate criminals demanding their money back and the true depth of the evil that his boss is capable of. But Marvin did not count on his barman’s own dark steak and the result is a bloody showdown.
5. Inception (2010)
Businessman Saito hires a team of unusual spies. Cobb and Arthur extract information from people by infiltrating their dreams but this time, Saito wants them to plant an idea in someone’s head instead – an act that, if successful, will weaken his business rival’s empire.
Cobb collects his team and one of them is an identity forger called Eames (Tom Hardy), who will appear as the trusted godfather of the target, Robert, to convince the latter that Saito’s idea is his own. The team moves through epic dreams within dreams and battles their own demons and unexpected complications to survive and succeed.
6. London Road (2015)
This movie is based on the stage musical “London Road,” which tells the story of the Suffolk Strangler. Also known as the Ipswich Ripper, he murdered five women in 2006 in an area near London Road.
The story is told in a documentary style wherein residents and the media are consumed by the crimes. Although the unusual filming techniques did not earn London Road rave reviews, the cast is excellent and Tom Hardy fans can enjoy his cameo as a cab driver who knows way too much about serial killers.
7. Bronson (2008)
Starting at a young age, Peterson cannot help but to get into trouble. After a spree of violence and crime, he is finally caught and sentenced to seven years in prison. His hopes of an early release are dashed when his own behavior behind bars leads to an extension of his sentence. After he is transferred to a psychiatric hospital, Peterson hatches a plan to escape.
The story follows his brief spell outside in the free world where he earns the name “Bronson” in the underground fighting world and his often-humorous descent into becoming a lifer, mostly due to his penchant for taking prison staff hostage.
8. Lawless (2012)
During the 1930s, the Bondurant brothers are successful moonshine makers living in Franklin Country, Virginia. Things go south when a new US Marshal, Charley Rakes, arrives and starts to demand protection money from all the local bootleggers including the Bondurant brothers.
The middle brother Forrest (Hardy) refuses, becoming the only bootlegger to do so. This triggers several violent and life-threatening confrontations between Forrest and Rakes. But things between the bootleggers and the corrupt officials come to a head when the lawmen form a blockade that prevents anyone from leaving the town.
9. Capone (2020)
Al Capone is no longer the most notorious bootlegger in Chicago. After 10 years in prison and suffering from declining health, the 40-year-old is released as he is no longer deemed to be a threat.
In a stellar performance, Hardy depicts Capone’s last years as he loses his mind to untreated syphilis. While remaining under FBI surveillance, his family tries to shield Capone as he becomes sicker and confesses that he had hidden $10 million somewhere but he cannot recall the hiding place.
10. Venom (2018)
When journalist Eddie Brock investigates claims that bio-engineering company Life Foundation is running illegal experiments on humans, he discovers that they are indeed using unwilling people as hosts to keep a newly-discovered alien lifeform alive.
Breaking into the facility, Brock accidentally becomes a host to one of these life forms called Venom. As the Life Foundation fails to keep the other aliens alive, they want Venom back at all costs. But the deadly being has other ideas and reveals its terrible purpose to Brock as they try to keep one step ahead of their pursuers.
