Just like their more domesticated cousins, wolves are canines. They have the same built, albeit bigger, stronger, faster.
Wolves are wild by nature. Thus, one can’t easily get a pup in the forest and expect it to grow up like a dog. It will keep its untamed tendencies, like its aggressiveness and aloofness. They’re best kept by themselves in the wild, where they can hunt, play, and be with other wolves.
That has not kept man from its curiosity towards these mysterious creatures though.
Man and Wolf
There’s a theory that we didn’t domesticate canines – rather, it’s the opposite. A good number of experts suggest that wolves started following hunters when they found out you can get free food and shelter. Perhaps they got comfortable and decided to stick with us for good.
On the other hand, there are those who say that someone must have taken wolf pups and domesticated them, to be used mainly for hunting. That would make sense, considering there are dog breeds that are used for such purposes today. Great examples would be hounds, Labradors, dachshunds, and even beagles.
What Wolves Symbolize
Depending on your culture and location, wolves can take on different meanings and symbolisms. In Norse mythology for instance, the wolf can be both chaotic and destructive, while being wise and protective.
In Hindu mythology, wolves were used by Krishna to persuade the people of Vraja to make the journey into V?nd?vana. Meanwhile, according to Baltic legends, the Lithuanian goddess Medeina was often depicted as a she-wolf: single, beautiful, and refused the idea of marriage. And in Native American culture, the wolf was a symbol of loyalty, courage, and strength.
