Jena Sims and Brooks Koepka had their first physical encounter in 2015 at the Masters, months after chatting online. This was after Jena received tickets to Augusta National via a friend.

Sims reminisced on her first meeting with Koepka during an interview with Golf Digest.

“We met at the 2015 Masters. And that’s so special because I’m from Georgia, so it’s perfect,” she said.

“We were on Hole 7, which I don’t even remember, but he’s like, ‘Oh, I remember what you were wearing, where we were standing, everything.’ It was cool. … We were just friends at that point,” she added.

However, it wasn’t love at first sight for Jena and Brooks. The couple decided to take it slow by starting off as casual friends. Their friendship slowly blossomed into romance over the next couple of months.

Sims and Koepka continued to maintain a low profile even after they became romantically involved. It wasn’t until the U.S. Open in 2017 that their relationship status first became public knowledge. This was after FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck misidentified Jena as Brooks’ ex-girlfriend Becky Edwards when Brooks won the championship.

Buck’s misidentification of Koepka’s girlfriend was an honest mistake that helped clear many doubts as to the golfer’s relationship status at the time. It emerged that Brooks had long separated from Becky Edwards. But more importantly, Jena was rightfully identified as the pro’s girlfriend despite the mix-up in the names.
